You need either a wireless adapter or a NIC for each computer.
Install one if you haven’t.
A router, preferrably a wireless router.
Cable, DSL, Satellite or whatever your favorite flavor of modem.
Connect the router or wireless router directly to the modem.
Then we have two choices:
1) Connect both machines to the wireless router wirelessly.
2) Connect a patch cable from each computer to the ports of the wired or wireless router.
One final step and you’ll be surfing on both machines.
Turn off the computers. Leave the router or wireless router ON. Turn off or unplug the modem for 30 seconds. Plug it back in. Boot up your computers.
Wireless cards, adapters and routers can all be different manufacturers and types. They will all work together.
They work BETTER if you use the same brand and type whether Linksys 802.11g or D-Link 802.11n.
The age of the equipment will limit how fast it can connect and pass data. As old as they are you probably should buy new all around.
I personally recommend D-Link Xtreme 802.11n products. Your mileage may vary.
